Designer Fabrics at Croft Mill
Here at Croft Mill, we offer a delightful and versatile range of fabrics designed and produced by an array of carefully-selected designers from around the world. Many of these fabrics are available at a fraction of the standard cost. In this edition of our blog, we'll be looking in more detail at some of these world-class designers.
Stof Craft Fabrics
Stof Craft Fabrics was founded in Denmark in the 1970s and quickly made a name for itself as a designer and supplier of top-quality fabrics with unique designs. The company originally specialised in the supply patchwork and quilting fabrics but soon began to branch out, with the designers travelling the world searching for ideas and inspiration. Stof Craft Fabrics forged strong links with fabric makers all over the world, especially in Japan. Today, the company's wonderful selection of fabrics are made in one of the very best mills in Japan and the designers continue developing and adding to Stof Craft's superb selection.
- FEATURED FABRIC: Butterfly Garden. Made from 100% cotton, this beautiful fabric is of a soft Mint Green colour and is emblazoned all over with a print of delicate butterflies.
Clothworks
Clothworks was established as and remains to this day a family-owned and -run company. Based in Washington, USA, Clothworks is a specialist designer of premium-quality cotton for crafting and quilting. The company collaborates closely with several talented and highly-renowned print artists to create a wide range of fabric featuring colourful, playful and unique prints.
- FEATURED FABRIC: Gourmet Feathers. Designed by Ellen Crimi-Trent and made from super-soft cotton poplin, this splendid Pale Blue fabric features a quirky all-over print of chickens and lambs in cute poses. The fabric also incorporates extra decoration in Green, Yellow and Red tones.
John Louden Fabric
Originally a supplier of exquisite suiting cloth to bespoke tailors, John Louden & Co was founded in Manchester over 90 years ago in 1926. As the company's reputation for excellence grew, so too did its client base and John Louden & Co moved to Leeds in order to serve the bigger garment producers in that location. In the process, many new ranges were added including new clothing fabrics and quilting collections. Today, the company enjoys strong working relationships with the best mills in Thailand and India.
- FEATURED FABRIC: Watercolour Wildflowers. A colourful array of flowers has been printed onto 100% cotton in a Soft White colour to create this attractive fabric. Extremely versatile, the material can be used with equal success for quilting, crafting and creating unique garments.
Riley Blake Designs
Riley Blake Designs is a brand of material from Alpine Fabrics, which is owned by husband-and-wife team Bret and Cindy Cloward. Bret is the son of Blake and Kathy, who owned a number of fabric stores in Utah, USA for over three decades. After the unfortunate death of Bret's Father, he and his wife took over the business, which was soon joined by other members of the family. Riley Blake Designs was launched in 2009 at a quilt market and was an instant success. The brand focuses on 'freshness, playfulness, cheerfulness and charm' in the creation of its unique products.
- FEATURED FABRIC: Anchor. A beautifully-tactile brushed cotton, this material comes in a strong Red colour and is printed all over with a geometric design of White anchors. Perfect for craft, home decor and attractive garments with a nautical feel.
