The Wonder of Linen - Croft Mill
One can have a a love hate relationship with linen, it is a beautiful cloth, naturally cool to wear with a natural lustre and beautiful texture, it gets better with age and can look smart but casual at the same time. Yes it needs ironing; a bug bear for some and yes it creases, however, I suppose this is linen's charm as I am sure Michael Portillo may agree (his jackets on those train journeys, a testament to this).......
We have some wonderful linen fabrics in stock, many of Irish origin which will not disappoint. Plain and patterned, dark and light.............
Linen textiles appear to be some of the oldest in the world: their history goes back many thousands of years. Fragments of straw, seeds, fibres, yarns, and various types of fabrics dating to about 8000 BC have been found in Swiss lake dwellings and Dyed flax fibres found in a prehistoric cave in Georgia suggest the use of woven linen fabrics from wild flax may date back even earlier to 36,000.
