The Great British Sewing Bee Festive Specials: Dates Confirmed!
If you're a fan of The Great British Sewing Bee (which of course you are!), then you're in for a real treat this Christmas. The BBC has announced that there will be not one but TWO special celebrity editions of the hit show, to be broadcast on the 22nd and 30th of December.
The Great British Sewing Bee first hit our screens in 2013 and has done for sewing what The Great British Bake Off did for baking: inspired thousands of people to take up the rewarding craft.
Sadly, much-loved presenter Joe Lycett will not be hosting the festive specials. Instead, we'll be welcoming Sara Pascoe at the helm: Sara is a successful comedian and was one of the celebrity contestants on last year's Sewing Bee special. Industry experts Patrick Grant of Savile Row and Esme Young from Central Saint Martin's will be back to judge the competition and decide the winner.
The famous faces who will be taking up the special challenges include:
- Lawrence Chaney, winner of Drag Race UK in 2020
- Coronation Street actor Antony Cotton
- Rev. Kate Bottley, radio host and former star of Channel 4's Gogglebox
- Presenter and national treasure Anneka Rice
- Kiell Smith-Bynoe, star of TV shows Ghosts and Stath Lets Flats
- Rose Matafeo, writer and comedian
- Journalist Kirsty Wark
- Claire Richards, singer from Steps
The celebrity specials will follow the same format as the usual Sewing Bee with three challenges: the pattern challenge, the alteration challenge and the made-to-measure challenge. Contestants will be crafting Christmas jumpers and waistcoats, using clothes from charity shops to create outfits and making fancy dress costumes from scratch.
